Training coordinator of WUZDA Ghana, Mr. Ibrahim Abdul Ganiyu has been elected the next Northern Zonal Coordinator for the Ghana Coalition of NGOs in Water and Sanitation (CONIWAS).
His election comes after the two terms served by Programme Manager of WUZDA Ghana, Mr. Abdul Karim Ziblim expired.
Mr. Abdul Ganiyu’s election, which took place at the just ended 29th MOLE Conference in Sogakope, came not as a surprise to many especially members in the zone, as his contribution towards the growth and exposure of CONIWAS in the zone is unfettered.
Prior to the MOLE Conference, Abdul Ganiyu was overwhelmingly endorsed unanimously by members of the zone present in its last quarter meeting in Tamale, where it became necessary for a potential coordinator to be chosen and presented at Congress for election, before the MOLE Conference takes off.
In his final remarks to members before the congress preceding the MOLE Conference, the former coordinator, Mr. Abdul Karim Ziblim thanked all members for the confidence reposed in him over the two terms he served, and implored them to always have the success of CONIWAS in mind in all their activities.
According to Mr. Abdul Karim, what he wants to see for which he is passionate about contributing to CONIWAS succeeding, is for the lives of the people to change through improved WASH and its related activities.
The WUZDA Ghana Programme Manager believes that with adequate attention on the WASH sector by players and governments, a huge difference in improvement would be recorded in Ghana’s economy.
He therefore charged all members especially from the northern zone, to gear all their activities of WASH towards helping for the SDG Six to be achieved by 2030.
Mr. Abdul Ganiyu who accepted the responsibility to serve as the northern zonal coordinator indicated that it is a daunting task imposed on him, but with the kind of commitment he has put into all forms of activities of CONIWAS even before he had interest in the coordinator position, he believes with the support of all members, the northern zone of the coalition will contribute immensely to the success of CONIWAS.
He added that he is unfazed by the challenges the task comes with, but is assuring all members of a collaborative and listening leadership to help CONIWAS achieve its mandate of ensuring safe water coverage and improved sanitation to the people at all levels.
Following his election, Abdul Ganiyu is inducted into the Executive Committee of CONIWAS and will be part of all decision making meetings and conferences on behalf of members in the zone.
The northern zone also saw the co – opting of Miss Akanyani Beata Awinpoka as member of the Executive Committee, to also be part of the decision making processes of the coalition.
