WUZDA Ghana has organized a staff retreat in the Tolon District, which aims to bring together its dedicated staff and local farmers to a common platform to learn and share, for the purpose of capacity building.
This activity, serves as beginning of the 4th Phase of WUZDA Ghana’s agricultural project “FaPUOWaFLiS” in the target communities, aimed at promoting environmentally friendly and economically viable farming techniques.
The retreat will serve as a platform for knowledge exchange, capacity building, and community engagement.
Farmers who have been integral in the project’s journey over the past years are joining to bring to the fore their experiences, as they learn new strategies to enhance productivity, while preserving the environment.
Central to this retreat is the promotion of sustainable agriculture, an approach that seeks to balance the need for food production with the preservation of the ecological systems that agriculture depends on.
The retreat, according to the Programme Manager for WUZDA Ghana, Mr. Ziblim Abdul Karim, is a key part of the activities under the project, where staff members’ capacities will be enhanced, as well as farmers learning new techniques and practices in farming.
The “FaPUOWaFLiS” project is designed to address the challenges posed by climate change, soil degradation, and the over-reliance on chemical inputs, which have become unsustainable.
During the retreat, participants will engage in a series of workshops, and interactive sessions. These activities will focus on introducing innovative farming techniques, such as organic farming, crop rotation, and integrated pest management.
By adopting these methods, farmers can reduce their environmental impact, improve soil health, and ensure long-term productivity.
Training Coordinator and Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, Mr. Ibrahim Abdul Ganiyu says this is an additional opportunity for each staff to acquire the skills they need, to support in planning before moving into a community for an activity, as well as being able to gather the right information needed for reporting.
WUZDA Ghana recognizes that sustainable agriculture is not only about individual practices, but about building strong networks, hence the need to focus also on emphasizing the importance of community collaboration.
The retreat begins on Monday 2nd September, 2024 in a serene and quiet location in the Tolon District, where staff will be accommodated for 4 days, with series of activities for capacity building and training in all the interlinked areas of WUZDA Ghana’s operations.
The team is expected back in Tamale on Friday, 6th September, 2024, as it resumes office work on Monday 9th September, 2024.
This is an activity under the “FaPUOWaFLiS” project is funded by WUZDA Ghana’s development partner Bread for the World in Germany.
